About us

As a civil society organization, the Union of Hungarian Women Association sees its mission as building a bridge between the past, present and future. We believe that the fabric of society is made up of strong, educated, sensitive and active communities - and at their heart is the power of women.

 

Our goal is to place the social role and perception of women in a new context – to give value to traditions, boost social innovation, and create space for creative ideas. We pay special attention to expanding women's educational, cultural, and economic opportunities, mentoring women's businesses, supporting rural women, and startup applications, with a special emphasis on talent development, family support, the importance of women's health, community building, and intergenerational dialogue.

 

We respect the role of men in society and value those who actively support women in their careers and social advancement. We believe that creating a more just world is a shared responsibility.

 

We are inspired by the great women of Hungarian history – including Ilona Zrínyi, Kata Árva Bethlen, Teréz Count Brunszvik, Antónia Count Zichy, Vilma Count Hugonnai and many others – whose intellectual legacies we look to as a compass. In this spirit, we also believe in what Madeleine Albright said in 2006:

"There's a special place in hell for women who don't help each other."

Women should support each other, not compete or hinder each other.

The keywords of our organizational operations are collaboration, creativity and value creation. With our events, programs and professional collaborations, we work to ensure that more and more women in Hungary dare to assert their knowledge, vision and power of action.

 

The Union of Hungarian Women Association was established to advocate for women's interests, but it is not just for women. We work for a better, fairer, more open society, where traditional values can be at least as effective as the creative female energies arising from the freedom and equality offered by the 21st century.
